OUR HISTORY

At Marwood Schnauzers, we have taken something which started as a family passion and turned it into a successful breeding business. We breed our animals to have friendly dispositions and to fit in seamlessly as incredible family pets.

Since 2001, we have been located in the Rimbey Alberta area where we live together with our animals. We breed responsibly and according to the best practices of the trade, which makes us your go-to home to find your perfect pet.

ABOUT THE BREED

Schnauzers

This breed of dog is a good family pet.  Due to its friendly nature they get along well with other animals and children. They are a family orientated dog so they prefer to be around people than on their own. Because they are an energetic dog regular daily exercise is necessary.

Coloring

AKC does recognize and register all these different colors as purebred Schnauzers. You’re welcome to contact AKC for more information at (919) 233-9767 regarding these colors and their registration color codes are. make your own decisions don't let someone tell you what to do. Educate yourself and learn all about the history of schnauzers. As you choose a puppy, keep in mind that sometimes the coat of the schnauzer can fade over time. So black & Silver could end up looking like a Salt & Pepper, Liver could end up looking like a Liver Pepper, and so on. So we encourage you to do your research, this way you can be comfortable with all the colors and what to expect. Then you can have a blast picking out your favorite one!

Schnauzers come in many colors but not all of them are breed standard colors however they are still recognized by AKC.  They come in solid black, liver, white and red. Patterned: salt and pepper, liver and pepper, black and silver, all with or without tan points. Irregular patterns: salt and pepper parti, liver or chocolate parti, red parti, and black parti. The breed standard colors that are allowed in show rings are: Black (007), Black and Silver (016), and Salt and Pepper (167).

Fading

Schnauzer coat colors are known to fade over time, this means that a black puppy can turn into a grey puppy by one to two years of age due to the fading gene inherited from their poodle ancestors.  At Marwood Schnauzers we have taken great care to choose breeding males and females that are known not to have the fading gene.  This means that when you choose a black and tan puppy that puppy will stay black and tan.

Blue eyed Schnauzers

This trait is independent of the merle gene which means you can get a blue eyed schnauzer in any coat color

Registration

Marwood Schnauzer puppies will go home registered with AKC, American Kennel Club, or APRI, America's Pet Registry Inc.
